Direct / Public AccessPractice Areas

Thank-you for visiting my website. I am a Barrister in the North of England.  If you have a legal problem I may be able to assist you.

In the English legal system there are two professions who have carried out completely different roles – a ‘Solicitor’ and a ‘Barrister’ (a ‘Barrister’ is the person who wears the wig and gown in Court)! A Solicitor deals directly with the public and will consult a Barrister for expert advice on a particular problem and instruct him to represent you in Court (not unlike the relationship between your G.P. and a hospital Consultant). Historically, only Solicitors (and not members of the public) could engage the services of a Barrister and you had to instruct and pay a Solicitor first.  In recent years this has changed and now, for certain types of legal work, certain Barristers, such as myself, can be instructed by you directly without the need to have a Solicitor.

If, after reading the information on this website you want to contact me to discuss your particular legal problem please click on ‘contact’ on the left of this page and complete the brief details.
